[DCRM-L] use of bibliographic field 562 (James, Kate)

Dear Kate, the 562 examples here might be useful as well:
https://harvardwiki.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HoughtonTechnicalServices/pages/41178935/562+Copy+and+version+identification+note+public?pageId=41178935
Houghton catalogers would not, for instance, put any substantiated ownership information into the 562, but would note that information in a 561. UNattributed notes and the like might end up in a 562. You'll see several other common ways we regularly use the 562 here. I think this link is open to view, and you can expand up to see other local note information. Happy to answer any questions you may have,
Good luck, andrea

Hello, Deborah,

I hope you're doing well! Wesleyan is currently looking to hire a special collections cataloger, and I wondered if you might be willing to circulate the job description<https://us01.l.antigena.com/l/obfouJVlZpBf1Nq32P1SU95xeecdgvYg7iZx1M6lTXoM5T~vec3Y8bSBasDCsfKZJOkXGWkncR-4P~Guo9RqzwCJI~7Tl-dLzq73Q11KTAA3cTP4NxZ88MmrIRLArl9KLiUxIIdEhBbQNCoiKRfarWj~AD1pPT~29xILWpEvNOhZampeyCbuICdlH-xMlkZpd1-V2pbIhEjqtvLBcyrT5e-FUKJSmD~OsH6Mr4NE2sqeq_jLEJC-FPyBaztl4gy~flM> to former students or others in your network. I'm happy to field any questions about the position, from you or others.

Thank you!

Best wishes,
Tess

Hi Kate,

Harvard uses the 562 in our holdings records, and has some documentation in our Best Practice for MARC 21 Fields Describing Local Information<https://harvardwiki.atlassian.net/wiki/x/lxV_Aw?atlOrigin=eyJpIjoiMTJmZjBmNDAxNzRlNGU2ZmI4NjBlNmU4N2U5OWNiNjQiLCJwIjoiYyJ9>, which I believe is open to anyone (I can access it logged out, but it is possible that this is because I am on the local network).

I think the most common uses are to record imperfections and copy numbers from limitation statements.

Best,
Honor

Hello all,

Do any of you use field 562<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.loc.gov_marc_bibliographic_bd562.html&d=DwMFAg&c=WO-RGvefibhHBZq3fL85hQ&r=gfxDZP5m9KyeWhmono1ADELcLUOEQEwGHybTpd5N2Wk&m=dc6kueQ0FLBQbyQg-5X6OxQJGbcIBZ-3OnE_lpK_JPSyZok-yMGYqbxP1OB7LjHp&s=Lsx3tTQ2ojpxudfNcvIa9tVnz_QC3vvU-gnL2qNIL7c&e=> (Copy and Version Identification Note) in your cataloging and if so, can you tell me more about use cases either here or email me at jamesk at oclc.org<mailto:jamesk at oclc.org>? Field 562 is not indexed in WorldCat so that may be one reason I don't think I have seen it much when looking at records in Connexion. I also don't remember using it in previous jobs cataloging rare materials. Links to records in your local catalogs would also be very appreciated.

Please note--I am asking for myself so I can understand the field better, not because OCLC is planning any indexing changes. I looked at the Examples to Accompany DCRM(B) and DCRM(S), but didn't see it in either one.

Kate
