Dear colleagues,
The agenda for the MARC Advisory Committee (MAC) Midwinter Meeting,
February 18-19, 2026, has been published:
https://www.loc.gov/marc/mac/mw2026_age.html
The slate of 4 proposals and 4 discussion papers are now available to the
MARC community for discussion and comment prior to the meeting.
Please use this Google Form <https://forms.gle/oVqcNfdYbyA5QRir9> to *submit
your feedback by Monday, February 9, 2026, 11:59 p.m. Eastern. *Alternatively,
you can email your feedback directly to me (matthew.haugen at columbia.edu)
https://forms.gle/oVqcNfdYbyA5QRir9
I will compile all feedback received from the RBMS and rare materials
community,
to be shared with the MARC Advisory Committee (MAC) prior to the meeting.
This feedback will also help inform my participation and voting during the
meeting itself. My focus as RBMS liaison is on representing the interests
of the rare materials community, but your comments are welcome on any
aspect of the papers/proposals, whether related specifically to rare
materials or not.
The MAC meetings will be held virtually on Zoom, February 18, 10:30-1:30pm
Eastern Time, and again on February 19 if needed. so if you're interested
in attending as an observer, information about meeting access will be
shared by the Library of Congress before the meeting. Recordings
<https://www.loc.gov/marc/mac/recordings.html> are also posted on the LC
MARC Development website.
Your input truly makes a difference! Recent changes to the MARC 21 formats
<https://www.loc.gov/marc/marc21_update41_online.html>sponsored or
supported by the rare materials community at the last MAC meeting include:
the new subfield $z in the Bibliographic 245
<https://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd245.html> (Title statement) field
and the definition of a new Holdings 655
<https://www.loc.gov/marc/holdings/hd655.html> (Index Term--Genre/Form
Index) field.
Apologies for cross-posting. Feel free to share the survey with interested
colleagues who may not have received this invitation. Thank you for your
participation!
