Dear colleagues,

We need your help! There are 17 people currently looking for mentors, some of whom have been waiting since March 2026 for a suitable match.

The Mentoring Program (http://www2.archivists.org/membership/mentoring) connects participants with shared interests in various aspects of the archival profession into 6-month mentoring partnerships. The goal is to cultivate career development and communication between members with areas of expertise and members who want to build their knowledge within those areas.

We currently have people seeking mentors who may have some of the following qualities:

   -
Archivists in University and Academic Libraries

   -
Archivists based in Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City

   -
Processing Archivists

   -
Digital Archivists

   -
Corporate and Business Archivists

   -
Tribal, LBGTQ+, and Community Archivists

   -
Women and LGBTQ+ Archivists

However, we are interested in receiving applications from anyone who has any interest at all in mentoring the next generation of archives professionals!

Whether you’ve been an archivist for your whole career, or just a few years, we want to match you with someone who would benefit from your experiences, and help you develop as a mentor yourself.

Some of our colleagues waiting for mentors are just getting started in the profession and are looking for advice on schools, classes, career trajectory, resume development and interviewing skills. Others are established professionals who are looking for guidance on exploring new aspects of archival practice or are changing careers.

For inspiration and insight into what a mentoring partnership looks like, we encourage you to read the posts on the SAA Membership Blog (https://membership.archivists.org/category/mentoring-program/) written by mentoring partners to learn how a relatively small commitment can make a big difference for a colleague’s growth. We also invite you to read the Archival Outlook spotlight (https://mydigitalpublication.com/publication/?i=861179&p=14&view=issueViewer) on the Mentoring Program written in 2026 by Lexy Degraffenreid, chair of the SAA Membership Committee.
Please consider signing up to be a mentor by submitting this application (https://mysaa.archivists.org/NC__Login?startURL=%2Fmentoring-form: click on "Apply to be a mentor").

Thank you for your consideration,

Benjamin Eskin Shapson
