Yes. The same holds true for transcription issues in the series numbering 
area. In DCRM(B), we wouldn't want to follow the standard AACR2/LCRI 
practice of silently substituting abbreviations for words such as "volume" 
in the 4XX $v. Or silently substituting AACR2 abbreviations for other 
abbreviations found on the item. We would want to transcribe as found in 
the 4XX and trace according to AACR2, etc., in the 8XX.
