[DCRM-L] Preparatory message for DCRM(M) hearing at ALA

Hi, everyone,

DCRM(M) is ready for its public airings (review and discussion) at both
ALA Midwinter in January 2007 and MLA Annual in February 2007.  Areas
0-7 have undergone extensive review and have been updated to reflect the
edits suggested by the Joint Task Group (JTG) members. (Guidance for
area 8 was negligible in previous DCRM(M) versions; therefore, for its
Version 4 update, area 8 will be adopted from DCRM(B), then adapted
accordingly for music materials; however, that has not been done as yet.
) 

 

Word documents for the areas 1-7 are linked from the Table of Contents
in the DCRM(M) site
<http://www.bol.ucla.edu/~jfletchr/DCRM/DCRM_opener.htm>; all of these
have "clean" and "tracked" versions.  As a way of conserving paper and
keeping traveling weight down, the JTG recommends that only the "clean"
versions be printed for taking to the public hearings.  Still, it would
be useful for potential participants to take some time before ALA to
look at the "tracked" versions to see the nature of the changes that
have been made between Versions 3 and 4. (Please note that the DCRM(M)
process has not included a cumulative tracking of changes, as DCRM(B)'s
did; each version has been tracked [in various ways] only from the
version immediately prior.)  Please note that the version number of the
documents (along with the most recent date of posting) has been clearly
stated in the footer of each area.

 

For the hearings, it would be optimal to print out the area documents
with a color printer.  But even if that is not possible, it is still
important to print the 1-p. "Explanation of Color Coding of Examples" in
color (a link to it has been made in the Table of Contents between "Area
8" and the "Appendices"). Having that information at hand is crucial to
understanding the current state of the examples in the documents (we'll
explain this further at the hearings).

 

There will be extra documents posted to the DCRM(M) site as of January
17, including one with the "Questions/Topics" to be covered at the
hearing and another with a fuller explanation of the state of Version 4
(these two documents will be linked from the "opening page").
Furthermore, the wording in the DCRM(M) "opening page" itself will be
somewhat changed, as will the wording of the "Working Introduction".
So, for best chance of having the most recent updated text at the
meeting, please delay printing out these two Web pages until the two new
links on the opening page become "live" (i.e., they actually link to
documents) on January 17.  (But again, Areas 1-7 are "fair game" and can
be printed now; they will not be further updated before ALA.)
