[DCRM-L] 1 gathering signed using 2 different symbols?

Hello all,
I am recording the signature statement for Joannis MiltonI Defensio
secunda pro populo Anglicano (Hagae-Comitum,1654) 
and the first 8 leaves are signed: t.p. unsigned, *2,
[fleuron]3-[fleuron]5, last 3 unsigned.
12mo format, the rest of the gatherings are singed A-D12 F4.
Not sure what to make of that first gathering.
Any suggestions?
