[DCRM-L] Help with a Sabin entry.

I'm trying to determine the state of the impressions of the plates contained
in our 1591 copy of the second part of Theodor de Bry's Great Voyages series
entitled, Brevis narratio eorvm qvae in Florida Americae provi[n]cia Gallis.
On page 31 in vol. 3 of Sabin there is a nifty outline which delineates the
first impressions from later reprints. However, I'm confused by the entry
for plate VIII, which states that in the first impression at the end of the
first line "the capital of the word Appulis on 5 lines" and in the reprints
the "same capital on 4 [lines]." Can someone enlighten me, as to what this
means?

The plate in hand does contain appulis- (appulissent divided) at the end of
the first line, but doesn't appear elsewhere on the leaf.

Thanks in advance,

Will
