Help. I'm stumped.
I have a large-paper copy of Codice civile del Regno d'Italia. Torino :
Stamperia reale, [1865?]. The gatherings are in 4 (I can see the sewing,
and the edges are untrimmed).
Signatures: pi ⁴ 1⁴ 1[star]⁴ 2⁴ 2[star]⁴ 3⁴ 3[star]⁴ .... 33[star]⁴
A similar copy without oversize margins digitized in Hathi Trust lacks the
starred signatures.
My guess is that the work was brought out in ocatavo, then the same plates
were used to create a larger quarto edition, with extra signatures for
every other gathering.
How can I write a concise collation statement? (pi⁴ 1-33[superscript 8]
does not seem correct, since this copy is not octavo).
Again, help.
