[DCRM-L] dcrmmss validation

I requested the new code from LC's MARC Standards office on June 28, and
they announced the new code in the September 28, 2016 technical bulletin:

http://www.loc.gov/marc/relators/tn160928src.html

The bulletin specifies a 60 day waiting period from that date for use of
the new codes in exchange records, to give implementers (such as OCLC) time
to update validation tables. The MARC website also says: "Implementers may
use newly assigned codes in their internal systems immediately as long as
records containing new codes are not distributed until after the waiting
period."

On DCRM-L on September 29, Jay Weitz said that OCLC would add the code in
an upcoming installation of Connexion, and Jackie Dooley also shared the
request to exempt records containing the dcrmmss code from duplicate
detection and resolution (DDR).

The waiting period elapsed at the end of November, but the code still
doesn't validate. So I followed up with Jay today and it now sounds like
the next Connexion installation is scheduled for this February.

Until then, for any records in OCLC, Jay suggested keeping track of record
numbers and going back to add the 040 code once it's validated.

I will post again if I hear anything more, as I'm eager to begin using
DCRM(MSS) too!

Thanks,

Matt
